Week 2: September 1-September 7

Whew! This week seemed to fly by in comparison to last week! It's probably because we had Labor Day off on Monday. This fun-sized four day week has been very busy though! I had one welcome desk shift, three Admissions Office shifts, one perspective student tour, and two ambassador events.

This week I was given the opportunity to work the "Welcoming African American Students Lunch" in Walters 100. This casual get together was a fun way to get to know incoming students and eat some tasty food! As Ambassadors, we helped Tanya Williams set up the buffet line and wipe down the tables. A local restaurant catered chicken, fried rice, and cabbage! It was delicious. Our new students were able to connect with us Ambassadors and with one another. The turnout was great!

We also threw a surprise baby shower for Sarah and Josh on Thursday. As Ambassadors; Jasmine, Kifaya, and I decorated the Student Life Office so that it would look exciting for Josh and Sarah! We blew up balloons, hung streamers, and made waffles! They were super surprised and all the staff were super happy to celebrate with Sarah and Josh.

One event that emphasized servant leadership was the "Welcoming African American Students Lunch". In order to prepare for the event, we had to do a lot of logistical and laborious activities, such as wiping down the tables and setting up the buffet. Although those things aren't the most "fun" part of the event, it is those small things that make the event possible. Without the set up and take down crew, the event would not have been the same. Sometimes being a leader means serving! The event was a success all thanks to servant leadership.

As for classes, things are going pretty smooth! I did however have to drop my online history course. I am now down to 13 credit hours. With all my new responsibilities, I wanted to make sure I could stay on top of my courses. My other classes are going great, I am enjoying them thoroughly. My Developmental Psychology professor was out sick this week so we have been reading the textbook. My Research Methods and Statistics class is very interesting and we are starting a group project soon. We had our first Spanish quiz in class Tuesday. I am working on my online Psychology Lab simulation tonight. All is well!

Two weeks down... many more to go!
